Secure over the Network

Nowadays, most everyone uses the internet for personal and business users over the network device (Router/Switch). However, the organization only do some protection on their server and system where they ignore the network protection.

A group of hackers can use the network mechanism for any malicious activity such as sending email from your network IP address. There is no way of avoiding the attack once the hackers made use of your network.

The first step of securing the network would be the encryption that been used in the router and switch. It is advisable to use a very strong password in your SSID passcode which will give a hard time to the attacker to crack your network password. For further reading on the password strength, can read over Password Security that i have posted recently.

It also advisable to change all the default password on the device because some of them can easily been found on the internet. The user will need to change the default password once they start running the network device.

It would good if the WPA or WPA2 been installed within the network device. So I would recommend using WPA and WPA2 as your network encryption which will cost heavily on the attacker side.

Some people will think why cannot use WEP?

The answer is easy. That is because WEP has been broken long years ago even though it is better than nothing in place. For further reading on Wireless Protection, can read more on here.

High Reminder!

Don’t make your Wi-Fi open publicly without any password in place. Also, please try to change SSID name which don’t expose any information about your network device.
