Reaper Botnet

A new botnet called “Reaper” have been notice as a massive issues since middle of September this year.

This new botnet “Reaper” is basically is been made up of a few things such as

  • IP-Based security cameras
  • Network Video Recorders
  • Digital Video Recorders

What is the difference of Mirai with Reaper?

Mirai is been exploited using the Telnet ports where it will take advantages of the unencrypted telnet of the selected server.

However, Reaper will force itself to take over an over updated patch on the server and it will not highly depend on the exploit on Unencrypted Telnet on the server.

Affected Device

The affected device for the Reaper botnet is such as following:

  • D-Link
  • TP-Link
  • MikroTik
  • Linksys

As for now, it look like that the system is affected is all related IoT device or environment.


The most possible good recommendation for this issues is that upgrade all the IoT device to the latest version where the latest version upgrade should be able to secure the device for now.
